Small groups are the intentional times shared with others outside of Sunday evenings. These times have more of an outward focus as we strive to follow Jesus’ example of befriending, helping, and loving people. This may be called a “missional lifestyle,” which has the intention of growing in relationship and sharing God’s love and grace with others in real, authentic ways. To be authentic, we must understand and engage the culture we live in, embracing those around us while remaining rooted in our identity in Christ.
Small groups may take a variety of forms and could happen frequently for a year or simply on an informal basis, but the desire to spur one another on and introduce friends to the living God remains the same. This intentional journey together may mean sharing meals or studying the Bible at homes, but may also involve getting together at a coffee shop, spending time together for happy hour, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation on hikes or bike rides, making music, creating art, praying together, tutoring kids, working in a soup kitchen, building houses, etc.

DNA Groups
DNA stands for discipleship, nurture and accountability–a place for people in our church to regularly gather together to talk, support and pray for each other. We desire to see more and more people creating intentional space in their lives (with one another) for God to work. The groups aspire to be a safe place for authentic, transparent and vulnerable discussion, where people can be supported and challenged in their journey with Christ.
These groups will be made up of 3-4 people and meet weekly to:
Listen to one another;
Learn from one another;
Prayer from one another;
Encourage one another;
Challenge one another;
…all to live more fully and faithfully in the way of Jesus.
Contact BJ Woodworth for more information about these groups (bj@pghopendoor.org).
